Thank you to the children in Years 5 and 6 who led the school and parish community in the Stations of the Cross today.
The children will help us to meditate on Jesus' final journey which led to the cross every Friday at 3.30pm in St Vincent's Church throughout Lent.
Everyone is invited to attend
How keen our children were to break the school uniform rules for the day!
Shirts hanging out, no ties, jewellery, trainers, hats and brightly coloured hair... you name it, they broke it! But in doing so, they raised an amazing £774.50 towards our School Kitchen Project, bringing the total raised so far to £4483.95! Thank you to everyone who took part and enjoyed the fun.
We still have approximately £6000 to raise by the end of this academic year so please keep those fundraising ideas coming.
The reading leaders did a fantastic job of running a 'Poetry by Heart' competition, challenging children from Key Stage 2 to select and learn a poem by heart. Many children borrowed poetry books from the library and selected a range of poems which they performed in front of the Key Stage 2 classes and a judging panel, who scored them on performance, voice, understanding and accuracy. In total 18 children took part as individuals or groups and impressed the judges with their confidence, volume and expression. This really inspired children to explore poems old and new by poets such as Cristina Rossetti and Benjamin Zephaniah. We look forward to further inspiring competitions and poetry events run by the reading leaders.
The winners were Katie and Leonie (Year 5) and three runners up were Thomas (Year 4), Jessie (Year 5) and Chloe and Bonnie (Year 3).
Y5 weaved their science and English learning together fantastically to retell the life of Marie Curie in their class assembly. It was great to hear their detailed diary entries as part of the script they had written as a class especially for the assembly. Well done Y5!
Our football team played their first football match against Sedley’s Primary School, as part of the ‘Small Schools Football League’. From the offset they showed great teamwork and sportsmanship. Within a few minutes St Anselm’s scored their first goal, followed by another; not long after. The game ended with St Anselm’s winning 13 goals to nil.
At all times the players remained focused and complacency never crept in. It was a pleasure to watch them plat so well together.
We are all very proud of you! Go St Anselm's!
