***NEW HOMEWORK SCHEDULE FROM TERM 3***

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back after what we hope was a really enjoyable Christmas. Thank you so much for the cards, presents and good wishes, which were very warmly received!

Homework

Thank you for your support with reading at home. The majority of children are achieving highly on the number of nights they are reading. Below is a reminder of expectations for nights read:

  • The children should read a minimum of 5 nights per week.
  • If they read 6 or 7 nights, they will be rewarded with team points.
  • If they read less than 5 nights, they may (depending on the circumstances) be asked to stay in at break times to read.
  • Children will also be rewarded with certificates at the end of each long term.

The homework timetable will continue as it was last term. New spellings will go home on a Monday each week and will be tested formally at the end of a four week unit, which includes a weekly quiz. Maths or grammar homework will be sent home on a Wednesday and will be due back in on the Wednesday of the following week.

Times tables

As we move closer to the National Multiplication Tables Check (which takes place towards the end of Year 4) we want to make sure the children are as ready and prepared as possible. Please do support your child to learn and practice all their times tables up to 12 x 12 in a way that suits them. The ‘Soundcheck’ option on the Times Table Rockstars app/website is designed to work in a similar way to the check, so is a great way for the children to practice.

Pen Licences

We look forward to awarding more pen licences this term to children who are demonstrating consistently neat, joined handwriting and good presentation. Children will need a blue handwriting pen to write with once they earn their pen licence. No fountain pens, biros or erasable ink, please.

Pencil Cases

A reminder that if children are bringing in their own stationery, please do make sure each item is clearly marked with their name to avoid things getting lost.

Outdoor PE

As we are doing outdoor PE again this term, the likelihood of the children’s kits getting a bit wet and muddy is quite high. At such times, we will send the kit home for washing after PE on a Friday and would ask for it to be brought back in for the following Monday. Thank you for your help with keeping the children comfortable and the classroom air nice and fresh-smelling!

Once again, thank you for your continued support. If you have any concerns or would like to discuss anything with one of us, please do not hesitate to contact the office to arrange a meeting.

Many thanks

Miss McAvoy, Mrs Tarry and Mrs Ranson
