Nurture UK

Nurture UK

We have embarked on an eighteen-month programme run by Kent County Council, which supports all mainstream schools across Kent to ensure that every child has a high quality, inclusive education where their social, emotional and mental health needs are met and supported, regardless of their background or circumstances. The programme enables a bespoke approach for each school, and celebrates what they already do well, and champion them to improve in areas that need it, with regular guidance and support.

The Six Principles of Nurture Practice:

  • Children's learning is understood developmentally
  • The classroom offers a safe base.
  • The importance of nurture for the development of wellbeing
  • Language is a vital means of communication
  • All behaviour is communication
  • The importance of transition in children's lives

As we have recently achieved the Wellbeing Award for Schools, we are already showing excellent practice against the different strands of focus. Our main objective for the programme, (as outlined in our next steps when achieving our Wellbeing Award) is to develop a robust monitoring system for measuring wellbeing. We are therefore training all teachers on the theory and practice of the Boxall Profile, and will use the online software provided by Nurture UK to screen all children, identify future nurture provision needed, and measure the impact of the provision offered.
