All homework runs from Monday to Sunday.
New spellings are introduced on Monday and the assignment will be available on Doodle after school that day. Children take home a spelling booklet (linked below) to practise their spellings once they have completed their assignment and can no longer see their words.
They will be tested the following Monday. A weekly maths and English task (maths OR English for Y1-3) will also be set on Doodle.
As well as completing assignments set by the teacher, children are asked to use the 'daily practice' area of Doodle and complete their 'X' a day activities in order to stay in the green zone. Each child has a target number of stars to earn each week to be 'in the green'. Children earn stars from completing assignments, playing their 'X' a day and other games within the Doodle programme. If children earn their target stars within a 7 day window (Monday-Sunday), they will be 'in the green' and will have completed their homework.
Children are expected to read for 20 minutes and record it in their planner at least 5 times per week, and to play Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) for at least 21 minutes per week (average 3 minutes per day).
To summarise:
Weekly homework expectations
Doodle Maths, English & Spell | Assignments | Completed |
Effort | ‘In the green’ | |
TTRS/Numbots | 21 minutes
Reading records/planners | 5+ nights |
Staff collect data on the completion of homework for monitoring by all staff and senior leaders. For children in KS2, any incomplete homework will result in breaktime reflections with teachers to address potential barriers preventing the completion of homework. For all children, where members of staff are concerned about a lack of engagement, they will be in contact with parents for support.
Homework is fundamental in allowing for additional time spent on basic skills like developing reading fluency and times tables which have an enormous impact on children’s progress and life chances. We appreciate all your support with this. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
