Reading

Oxford Owl E-book reading (see separate guide)

You may find that your child is coming to the end of the books within their level online. If this is the case, you may want to try the books in the next level up (although we would not recommend going further than 1 level higher than their previous level). Children returning to school will need to continue doing this at home.

This week, please upload to tapestry the reading level they are reading at home. It would be really great if you are able to upload a video of them reading a few pages too. Thank you. (This is so that in September we can reassess them from where you were reading at home, rather than where they were reading in March at school)

Red Words

Practise reading and recognising 2 new red words and revise all previously learned red words.

If you have learnt all the red words, you may want to ‘spot check’ a few from each set every week to keep the children’s memory refreshed. Children returning to school will need to continue doing this at home.

Maths

We have decided not to use the White Rose Maths this week as we have reservations about using the story they have planned for. Therefore, we are using Numberblocks episodes as a stimulus for our learning this week. (This will be completed in school for the children who are returning to school)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0006s5q/numberblocks-series-4-i-can-count-to-twenty

Watch the video. Practise counting in 2’s to 20 (pencils, toys, claps).

Write the pattern of counting in 2’s.

Watch the video. Practise counting in 5’s to 20 or above (pencils, toys, claps).

Write the pattern of counting in 5’s.

Watch the video. Practise counting from 20 to 30 (using actions, toys). Write the numbers from 20 to 30 or higher.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0007gcv/numberblocks-series-4-land-of-the-giants

Watch the video. Practise counting in 10’s to 50 or above (with an action for each count).

Write the pattern of counting in 10’s.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bp2t8d/numberblocks-series-3-pattern-palace

Watch the video. Practise saying patterns with colours, shapes, numbers or other things that interest your child (yellow, red, blue, yellow, red, blue). Ask them what comes next in their pattern. Draw their pattern.

Handwriting,

phonics

and sentence writing.

See the attached plan below.

The Read Write Inc videos we are using are now restarting the Set 2 and Set 3 sounds from the beginning. This will ensure the children cover all of the sounds, especially as we didn’t start using them at the beginning of the programme.  When your child meets a sound they already know, there will be new words on the video clip for them to practise. This revision will ensure the children are really embedding their sounds, ready for year 1. If your child has been covering only the set 2 sounds so far, and is now confident with recognising them and reading them in words, please move on to learning the set 3 sounds.

Please be aware, the videos are only available for 24 hours, and they change at 9.30. So we would advise doing phonics after this time. (This will be completed in school for the children who are returning to school)

Additional Activities and RE

See the attached plan below.

We have reduced the number of additional Early Learning Goal activities to only three, so instead of choosing activities to complete from a larger selection, we will set three compulsory activities. This approach will enable us to ensure all children complete the same learning whether in school or learning at home. Please continue to upload these to Tapestry. (This will be completed in school for the children who are returning to school)
