Autumn Term Learning

The reception team would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the generous cards and Christmas gifts. We hope you have a lovely Christmas break with your families and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

18th December 2019

This week, we have been exploring the Nativity story. We have been acting out the story using costumes and stick puppets, as well as sequencing and labelling events. We have also been making our own Nativity scene pictures.
This week, as well as exploring the key text of 'The Gruffalo', children have been rehearsing for their Nativity play, which they performed today and did a wonderful job of reminding us of the importance of Jesus' birth above all of the busyness that overwhelms us at this time of year.

6th December 2019

This week we have been learning the story of 'Stick Man.' Please see below some of the fantastic stick men we made.

29th November 2019

This week we have been exploring the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears to enhance our topic of 'Into the Woods.' We created a story map together and used it to retell the story of Goldilocks using actions and signs. We wrote speech bubbles pretending we were different characters in the story. We retold the story with puppets in our puppet theatre and also set up a 'Mummy Bears' Cafe', where children took orders and made sandwiches for their friends.

15th November 2019

This week we have been learning about Bonfire Night. We read stories about Bonfire Night and completed many different activities about this, including some lovely art work of fireworks. We focused on the importance of keeping children safe around bonfires and fireworks.

8th November 2019

This week we have been learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We learned about how Hindu children celebrate Diwali and the story of Rama and Sita, which the children acted out with puppets. We also made our own diya pots, rangoli and mehndi patterns and even did some lovely writing about Diwali.

1st November 2019

This week we have been learning about pets and have welcomed new additions to the Sunflower class; two Russian Dwarf hamsters! The children have learned all about how to take care of them and have been creating different pieces of writing inspired by our new pets. The children also decided to build new houses for the hamsters and thought really hard about what to use and how to make them safe for our pets. The Sunflowers have decided to call the hamsters Hammie and Cheeky Weeky!

17th October 2019

Have a look at some of the great learning that has been happening in Sunflower class this week.

11th October 2019

Today we had our first P.E lesson in the hall. We started our 'BEAM' programme, where we focus on different balance and coordination movements each week. The children tried really hard to undress and dress themselves for the first time.

2nd October 2019

This week we started our Read Write Inc phonics learning. The children really enjoyed their lesson, and did extremely well at recognising, repeating and writing our new sound.

26th September 2019
