LORIC Skills

At St Anselm’s, we recognise the importance of teaching our children life skills alongside the knowledge and skills they are developing in the various curriculum areas.

Encompassing a number of cross-curricular themes and the British Values, the following life skills are taught in a progressive way as children move through the school:

Leadership

Organisation

Resilience

Initiative

Communication

The 'LORIC family' help the children to develop in each of these 5 areas.

We believe these skills are essential for all young people, no matter what their personal level of achievement might be. Improving these skills, we believe, will lead to improved individual academic achievement as well as equipping them with skills for life beyond school.

Each term, the whole school focuses on one of the LORIC skills. The term begins with a whole school assembly that introduces the theme. This is followed up by age-appropriate lessons which provide the focus for the term.

Children have the opportunity to study each of the skills once per year and work towards achieving the requirements of each unit over a two-year programme. Certificates are awarded for each unit in Years 2, 4 and 6.
