This unit of learning looks at how the children can make use of their community to learn from it, as well as helping the community by doing things for it.
Activities can include visits to the local library; litter picking and leaf-clearing in the local area; local visits to sites around the school. The main event which the children take ownership of in this unit is to plan and hold a fundraising 'Tea Party' for their parents and other guests. The children are supported by adults in school to develop their ideas and make them become a reality.
Following the Tea Party, parents and carers are invited to look at their child's work in the classroom.
The School Council have agreed that the proceeds from this year's Tea Parties will go towards the Parish Project raising funds for Peru.
Year 6 held the first Tea Party for this academic year in October 2015 and raised a staggering £210.65!
